Sherwood Presents at Nano App Summit in Cleveland

Sherwood Advanced Composites Technology was proud to present at this year's Nano App Summit in Cleveland, OH. The 2nd bi-annual event is one of the most comprehensive application focused events in the area of Nanotechnology. This year's event was held at the elegant Ritz Carlton Hotel from October 22nd through the 25th. Three major areas were focused on: Automotive, Clean-Tech, and Defense. In addition, there were also tutorials in the basics of Nanotechnology such as concept, health, safety, and commercialization assessments.

The sessions focused on a wide range of nanotechnologies for very specific applications. Major manufacturers, leading nanotechnology product developers, and industry experts shared insights, current market demands, commercialization opportunities and more. Discussions included areas of alternative fuels, power, sensors, coatings, materials, and thermal and electrical applications.

The event was sponsored by several leading organizations and companies in nanotechnology but was organized by The Nano-Network and The Nano Business Alliance. The Nano-Network is a non-profit organization that was created to provide a collective voice for advancing the nanotechnology business community activities and capacities in Northeast Ohio, and throughout the nation. More information can be located at www.nano-network.org. The Nano Business Alliance, located in several cities around the country, was created to foster a range of initiatives including development of research and education programs, public policy and lobbying activities, public awareness campaigns, and industry support networks. Sherwood was proud to be a part of the Defense Applications sessions where they shared a panel discussion with some of their collaborators on an R&D project for advanced nanocomposites for light aircraft ballistics protection. Project Developer Donald Matthews presented for Sherwood on their role of development and manufacturing. The other speakers on the panel with Donald were Brian Rice, Division Head of Nonmetallic Materials at University of Dayton Research Institute; Art Fritts, President of NanoSperse; and Chuck Inglefield, President of American Technical Coatings.

"It was a real pleasure and honor to speak side-by-side with some of the most respected names in the nanocomposite world", noted Donald. "Sherwood has been doing some pretty incredible things in manufacturing and product development for almost forty years now. We've always felt that we were one of Northeast Ohio's best kept secrets, but the word is starting to get out and people are learning about our history and capabilities. We've made some impressive ballistic panels in the past and feel we have some innovative ideas, including nanotechnology, which will help us bring threat protection to a new level."
